Solomon's involvement in foreign affairs was extensive. We know that he made an alliance with Egypt, sealing it by marrying Pharaoh's daughter (1 Kings 3:1). Solomon also made an alliance with Hiram king of Tyre, who supplied him with materials for construction of the temple and Solomon's palace (1 Kings 5:1-18; 9:11-14). In addition, Solomon's many foreign wives are likely indications of other alliances, as marriages were common seals of foreign alliances.
